Alex Laroux at Refshaleøen

Alex Laroux is an architect whose instinct for reading a place before deciding what it becomes was shaped inside two of Copenhagen Harbour's most significant post-industrial sites, before turning that same approach to historic property in Portugal.

It started as a student, winning an architecture competition before finishing the degree.

Refshaleøen
Refshaleøen shipyard

Eleven years creatively developing the former Copenhagen shipyard grounds for its owners — once one of the world's most renowned shipyards — following years already spent there independently as an artist and architect.

Designed the public realm itself — street furniture, lighting, signage, and a harbour bus stop — alongside a UX-forward interactive website and all public communication content. Played a role in bringing Copenhagen Contemporary art center and AMASS restaurant to the island, anchoring its emergence as a serious cultural destination. Curated the site's full festival and events program, including Distortion Ø, Eurovision, Haven Festival, MAD by Noma, Copenhell, and dozens of other art, sports, and culture events.
